4-0 out of 5 stars It's truly a companion to Season One
This was the first ever companion book that I've ever gotten and I'm truly impressed. I loved the recaps and the little tidbits that only this book could give to you from the directors. It's even got some really good photos, albeit, mostly in black and white, but overall, I'm very happy with it!

5-0 out of 5 stars supernatural
My son loved the book - he can't get enough of this show so the book helped bring everything together!

4-0 out of 5 stars Worth Buying
While the episode summaries for this companion book are on the skimpy side and there are some notable mistakes, the book has several pluses as well which make it worth the price. For one, the graphic design is quite good, making the book visually interesting. For those who look for photographs there are a quite a few included, although the color photo section consists of well known publicity shots for the series.

The real plus is both the introduction by creator Eric Kripke and the various behind-the-scenes comments from people involved with the show.Even for someone well acquainted with cast interviews and show trivia there are likely to be some new tidbits here.

While I wouldn't say there's any real depth in terms of insights into the show, the episodes, or the characters, this is not a bad job, and for someone who enjoys the series it'll be a good gift or addition to their collection.

4-0 out of 5 stars Really informative
I really enjoyed this book. for a fan of supernatural like me it really made the episodes seem more real. Also all the added extras and interviews let you know what it'd be like behind the scenes. It contatins quite a bit of funny stuff but also stays on the supernatural seriousness track.

Anyone who watched this series will love this book. From on supernatural fan to another ENJOY! :D

5-0 out of 5 stars Supernatural Fan Heaven
If you enjoy the TV show Supernatural, but want to know more about the episodes than just the usual (writer, director, guest stars); this book is for you.It covers evey episode, in order, so it's easy to jump to your favorite episode(s).It gives a short synopsis but there's more explanation from the director, writers, tech folks on different but funaspects of each episode. It's full of trivia and great photos. It has a separate chapter on the main characters for Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki fans. Best Reason to enjoy this book - "25 Reasons Not to Go on a Road Trip with My Brother" by Sam Winchester. ... Read more

Book Description

Twenty-two years ago, Sam and Dean Winchester lost their mother to a mysterious and demonic supernatural force. In the years after, their father, John, taught them about the paranormal evil that lives in the dark corners and on the back roads of America...and he taught them how to kill it.

Sam and Dean have hit New York City to check out a local rocker's haunted house. But before they can figure out why a lovesick banshee in an '80s heavy-metal T-shirt is wailing in the bedroom, a far more macabre crime catches their attention. Not far from the house, two university students were beaten to death by a strange assailant. A murder that's bizarre even by New York City standards, it's the latest in a line of killings that the brothers soon suspect are based on the creepy stories of legendary writer Edgar Allan Poe.

Their investigation leads them to the center of one of Poe's horror classics, face-to-face with their most terrifying foe yet. And if Sam and Dean don't rewrite the ending of this chilling tale, a grisly serial killer will end their lives forevermore.

If you're familiar with the hit CW series, Supernatural, this book is definitely for you. Sam and Dean Winchester lost their mother 22 years ago to a demonic force. Since then, their father, John, has been hunting demons and training his boys to do the same. Now Sam and Dean are on their own seeking out the things that go bump in the night.

This book takes place right about in the middle of the second season and is a direct tie in to the television series. Ash, the mullet sporting computer genius needs the Winchester's help for a friend. The boys travel to New York City to learn just why Manfred's house is being haunted by a screaming blond in a Queensryche t-shirt. At the same time, some grisly murders have caught their attention. Someone seems to be using Edgar Allan Poe's famous literature as inspiration for murder and the Winchester boys came along just in time to investigate!

DeCandido did a very good job of capturing Sam and Dean. Their dialog was so typical of their characters and made them very vivid in my mind. One of the most important things for a book based on a television show has to be doing justice to the characters we enjoy so much and that was accomplished.

I did find the plot to be fairly thin and whodunit was barely ever a question in my mind. Disappointing for someone who tries hard not to know the culprit until the end! However, all can be forgiven because the author captures the characters and the feel of the show so well. As a fan, it was definitely well worth the time.

I appreciated the interesting details about Poe's life and literature that were sprinkled throughout. The title doesn't disappoint.

The music references were fantastic and well thought out, bringing more authentic detail to Manfred and his aspect of the story, not to mention Dean's obsession with classic rock.

Overall, it was an enjoyable read and I look forward to more Supernatural fiction.

3-0 out of 5 stars Remedy for 'Supernatural' withdraw
I picked this book up last summer when I was really starting to miss seeing new episodes every week and was desperately waiting for Season 2 to come out on DVD. What I found was a quick, fairly entertaining read; as far as TV tie-in novels go this was definitely up there. The author recreated the banter between Sam and Dean fairly well; I even laughed out loud a couple times!

On the other hand, this IS a TV tie-in, and the novel wouldn't stand on its own. Sadly, it wasn't up to par with actual Supernatural episodes either. While the author did flesh out the Winchesters well, I feel more time really should have been spent creating the villain. He wasn't scary, and this made the climax well....anti-climatic. The writers on Supernatural do research their "monster-of-the-week" for every episode and I feel this book would have greatly benefited from the author giving the same care and thought to his villain.

Nevertheless, with the current writer's strike putting even the possibility of a second half for season 3 in question, this book is a good way to pass the time until new episodes are aired.

2-0 out of 5 stars Off to a rocky start
I waited until I read the second book in the "Supernatural" series before I posted a review of "Nevermore." I didn't want to unfairly judge a book based on Eric Kripke's brilliant vision of the TV show. However, having read the first two books, I found that I enjoyed "Witch's Canyon" significantly more. My main problem with "Nevermore" is that it seems the writer tries way too hard to be funny, and in the process, Sam and Dean come across as shallow and, well, just not very likeable. Some of the jokes were painfully bad (Dean not washing his hands after he uses the urinal, then explaining that Marines were taught not to pee on their hands? Um, yeah. Old, overused joke. Not to mention gross.) I might have been able to overlook the character flaws were the supernatural element a good one. I'm a huge fan of Edgar Allan Poe and I was really looking forward to this story, but in the end it proved a letdown. There just weren't any scares. I understand this author is working on another book in the series. I'm willing to give him another chance. Hopefully he'll have found his footing by then.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent
I loved this story.Because Jared and Jensen have created their characters so well on screen, it was easy to imagine it all in my head and I was reading along.Well written, even a non SN fan would have enjoyed this story - just a good mystery - to canon [which fans appreciate].

1-0 out of 5 stars Painfully bad
First off, if I wanted a street-by-street guide of New York, I'd have gone to the travel section.Secondly, this author obviously has no real sense of the complexity that makes Sam and Dean Winchester the wonderful characters they are on the show.He simplified them down to their worst traits and turned them into terribly rendered charicatures.Nevermind that he set the story during one of the most emotionaly wrenching periods of their lives (discovering for certain that their father definitely traded his soul for Dean's life and is now in hell for it; Dean carrying around the secret that he may have to kill his brother one day, which is eating him up inside).Instead of drawing from this rich trove of information, the author attempts to treat this as if it should be a funny, light-hearted period for the boys in which Sam is a shallow snot and Dean's an imbecile.Um. . . no.Just NO.Just doesn't work. And the story? What story?Goes no where. Not recommended. ... 1-0 out of 5 stars Disappointment!
Don't bother with this book. It is kiddish and a waste of effort to get through. If you want something from the Supernatural book collection that is worth your money, buy the S1 companion book. Avoid this one. It is a total waste of money and time. Had to give it one star 'cos it doesn't allow you to give it zero stars.

I love the show "Supernatural" and anything to do with it.This book was semi-interesting, mainly because it was written from the point of view of Dean and Sam Winchester and because it touched on the entities the boys have faced on the show. ... Read more
