3. Immunology of Behcet's Disease
Product Description Behçet's Disease (BD) is one of the most-studied systemic disorders characterized by an occlusive vasculopathy of multiple organs. The etiology and pathogenesis of BD are still unclear, but there is evidence for genetic, immunologic and infectious factors in the onset and throughout the course of the disease. Immunology of Behçet's Disease highlights various aspects of BD. After an epidemiological overview, the clinical presentation of ocular and non-ocular symptoms of BD are summarized. The immunopathological changes reflect a chronic vasculitis of arterioles, venules and capillaries. The role of T-cells, but also of NK-T-cells, secreted cytokines and neutrophils is covered. For years microorganisms have been under investigation as initiating BD and, in particular, immune reactions against various microbial heat shock proteins could be an important etiological factor. It has been shown that the pathogenic gene involved in the development of BD is pinpointed to HLA-B51. Finally, the treatment of BD is discussed in detail, including new options like anti-TNF-alpha-antibodies and interferon-alpha. Immunology of Behçet's Disease summarizes our knowledge regarding the most important factors that induce or trigger BD and will stimulate research in the field and help to initiate new ideas. ... 6. Behcet's Disease by Bertrand Wechsler
Product Description The above mentioned conference was hosted in Paris, following on from the Mayo Clinic. Behçet's disease remains mysterious, despite the increasing interest of researchers, reflected in the 200 communications selected for this publication. Numerous previously held beliefs about the disease are disputed or contradicted, following on from the conference. For example, the disease was previously described as a disease limited to the Mediterranean basin, whereas it is in fact omnipresent, as is demonstrated by papers from more than 20 countries across the globe. Described as being seven times more likely to affect men, in fact the disease afflicts women more often in epidemiological surveys and takes a more minor form. Behçet's disease can begin in childhood, even though it was believed to be a disease of young adults. In spite of the absence of biologic or histologic markers, Behçet's disease has international classification cri ... Read more |

9. Behcet: Webster's Timeline History, 1872 - 2007 by Icon Group International
Product Description Webster's bibliographic and event-based timelines are comprehensive in scope, covering virtually all topics, geographic locations and people. They do so from a linguistic point of view, and in the case of this book, the focus is on "Behcet," including when used in literature (e.g. all authors that might have Behcet in their name). As such, this book represents the largest compilation of timeline events associated with Behcet when it is used in proper noun form. Webster's timelines cover bibliographic citations, patented inventions, as well as non-conventional and alternative meanings which capture ambiguities in usage. These furthermore cover all parts of speech (possessive, institutional usage, geographic usage) and contexts, including pop culture, the arts, social sciences (linguistics, history, geography, economics, sociology, political science), business, computer science, literature, law, medicine, psychology, mathematics, chemistry, physics, biology and other physical sciences. This "data dump" results in a comprehensive set of entries for a bibliographic and/or event-based timeline on the proper name Behcet, since editorial decisions to include or exclude events is purely a linguistic process. The resulting entries are used under license or with permission, used under "fair use" conditions, used in agreement with the original authors, or are in the public domain. ... Read more |
